Netflix has released the first trailer for The Rip, a new crime film where Matt Damon and Ben Affleck team up once again. In just 4 days, the trailer has been viewed over 4 million times.
The official synopsis of the film reads: "When millions of dollars are discovered in an abandoned stash house, trust begins to crumble within a team of Miami cops. As outside parties learn the extent of the loot, everything is thrown into disarray, including who can be trusted." In addition to Damon and Affleck, the cast also includes Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Sasha Calle, Néstor Carbonell, Lina Esco, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler. Joe Carnahan is responsible for the screenplay and direction.
In an interview, Carnahan mentioned that The Rip is inspired by his love for 1970s action films and the experiences of a close friend who worked in the narcotics unit of the Miami-Dade police. "The story is partially based on his life as a father and head of tactical narcotics, combined with my fascination for classic '70s cop thrillers like Serpico, Prince of the City, and more modern works like Heat," said Carnahan.
Damon and Affleck also serve as producers through their company Artists Equity, with Dani Bernfeld and Luciana Damon as co-producers. Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe are executive producers, while Michael McGrale and Sasha Veneziano co-produce.
