First Reviews Of 'The Woman In Cabin 10' On Netflix: Watch Or Skip?

The Woman in Cabin 10 featuring Keira Knightley is proving to be disappointing to many viewers and critics alike.

Yesterday, another major film dropped on Netflix: The Woman in Cabin 10, starring Keira Knightley, Guy Pearce, Art Malik, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Kaya Scodelario. Critical reception, however, has been extremely poor.

The film follows journalist Laura Blacklock, who believes she witnessed someone being thrown overboard during a luxury cruise. The crew denies it, insisting all passengers are accounted for. As her own credibility comes under fire, she continues to search for answers. The Tomatometer currently stands at a concerning 22 percent.

Red Herrings

Courtney Howard (Variety) takes issue with how the film constructs its mystery. According to her, it's less of a whodunit and more of a clumsy game of deception: "The mystery is less about who is involved - alert viewers will quickly catch on to the wrongdoers - and more about the puzzling effort the creators make to plant forced 'red herrings'."

Chris Barsanti (Slant Magazine) focuses on the pacing. He finds the storytelling energetic but feels the climax arrives too quickly: "The film doesn't waste time, but it also rushes to its climax too fast." Barsanti appreciated the pace but noted that the tension isn't sustained long enough.

Hammer Grace

Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) delivers a harsh verdict on its effectiveness as a thriller. He asserts that the film fails to deliver on the promises of its genre: "A thriller in name only; it has the grace and cunning of a hammer to the head."

In a more positive take, Tania Hussain (Collider) praises the execution and the lead role: "Clever, stylish, and suspenseful; it largely works thanks to Knightley's performance. The plot is predictable: no genre revolution, but still quite solid."
