Is 'The Last Of Us' In Danger? After Showrunner Leaves, Now Star Bella Ramsey Is Moving On

Bella Ramsey takes on the role of Maya in a gripping new British drama about hiding and threats.

While fans eagerly await the third season of The Last of Us, lead actress Bella Ramsey is keeping busy. The British star has landed a new role in a completely different series. This news was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Bella Ramsey has been cast in the upcoming series Maya. In this British drama, she plays a teenage girl named Maya who, along with her mother (portrayed by creator Daisy Haggard), must go into hiding through a witness protection program. The two arrive in a small Scottish village, where their past quickly catches up with them.

Witnesses Under Pressure

It soon becomes clear that this is more than just a quiet restart in a village. Two assassins are on Maya and her mother’s trail, and it quickly becomes obvious that an old threat has never really left them. This series gives her the opportunity to showcase her talent in a genre quite different from the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us.

There is currently no streaming service linked to Maya for the international market. The series is being developed by British Channel 4, but given Ramsey's popularity, it seems like only a matter of time. Additionally, this series gives her the opportunity to showcase her talent in a genre quite different from the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us.

No Impact On Season Three

For those worried that this new project could disrupt The Last of Us, there's no need to worry. Filming for season three hasn't started yet and previous reports indicate that this time, the story will focus primarily on the character Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever). Thus, Ramsey will still be involved, but she will not be the central figure in the new season.
