"More Insane Than Game Of Thrones", Apple TV+ Launches Epic Trailer For 2025's Spectacle
The newly revealed trailer for 'Chief of War' showcases Jason Momoa's compelling story about Hawaii's unification.
Apple TV+ has released the full trailer for the historical series Chief of War, in which Jason Momoa not only stars but also serves as writer and executive producer. The nine-part series is set in Hawaii and tells, based on true events, the story of Ka'iana, who showed an unprecedented ambition: to unite the islands before the arrival of Western powers.
The series features an almost entirely Polynesian cast, including Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, and Kaina Makua. Doug Jung acts as showrunner, with Justin Chon directing the first two episodes. The premiere of episodes 1 and 2 takes place on August 1, followed by weekly new episodes until September 19.
In an interview, Jason Momoa called Chief of War his personal passion project, referencing a former Game of Thrones employee who worked on the series. He was deeply moved by the story and said according to Momoa: “This is bigger than Game of Thrones could ever be. Forget dragons, man, this is truly insane.”
The focus is on Ka'iana, a Hawaiian warrior dedicated to uniting his people in the late 18th century. The series combines spectacular battles with cultural depth, carefully portraying authentic elements such as the Hawaiian language and traditional lifestyles. Sources confirm that Chief of War was deliberately crafted with over fifteen cultural advisors to ensure historical accuracy.
The trailer features scenes of Ka'iana even taming a shark and riding on the creature across the water. Such images underscore the ambitious mix of mythological allure and serious themes.
