'28 Years Later' Gets A Sequel Sooner Than You Think
We are excited to share that a sequel will be arriving sooner than fans expected.
28 Years Later has finally hit theaters, and we had to wait a long time for this moment. Not 28 years, fortunately, but it's close: the previous entry in the series, 28 Weeks Later, was released in 2007.
28 Years Later marks the beginning of a trilogy, but thankfully we won't have to wait as long for the second part. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has already been filmed and is coming faster than you think.
The films were shot simultaneously, and the story of The Bone Temple will take place immediately after the end of 28 Years Later. Details are not known, - WARNING: SPOILERS! - but we do know that there will be a strong focus on the mysterious Jimmy (Jack O'Connell).
According to writer Alex Garland, the second film will explore how people relate to past events. "We live in a time dominated by a misremembered past," he tells Business Insider.
In The Bone Temple, we will see O'Connell alongside Alfie Williams, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and more. Cillian Murphy returns as his character from 28 Days Later.
The film was not directed by Danny Boyle, but this time it is in the hands of Nia DaCosta (Candyman). The release date is set for January 16, 2026, so we only have to wait another 6 months.
