Is 'The Walking Dead' Really Dead After Two New Series?

The future of 'The Walking Dead' franchise remains uncertain after the conclusion of two new series, leaving fans questioning what comes next.

This weekend, it was announced that the Walking Dead series Daryl Dixon will end after four seasons. As the series centered around actor Norman Reedus's character is one of the two current parts of the franchise, the question arises: is The Walking Dead really coming to an end soon?

The other series currently airing is titled Dead City, which focuses mainly on the characters Maggie and Negan. The third season is likely to appear in 2026, and the series does not have an official conclusion yet.

Seven Series

Since The Walking Dead began in 2010, several spin-offs have been released. The best known is undoubtedly Fear the Walking Dead, which started in 2015 and ended in 2023. After that, World Beyond and Tales of the Walking Dead debuted.

Last year, the well-received The Ones Who Live focused primarily on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne Grimes (Danai Gurira). This brings the total to seven series within the ongoing franchise.

Future

So far, only More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe is planned, according to Wikipedia. This was announced in 2023. After that, little has been heard about the continuation of Tales of the Walking Dead.

An eighth series has not yet been announced, and no new series were revealed during Comic-Con either. It seems we will have to make do with Daryl Dixon and Dead City for now. The latter series, in particular, showed a significant decline in viewership during season 2.
