Is 'The Walking Dead' Really Dead After Two New Series?

The future of 'The Walking Dead' franchise remains uncertain after the conclusion of two new series, leaving fans questioning what comes next.

This weekend, it was announced that the Walking Dead series Daryl Dixon will end after four seasons. As the series centered around actor Norman Reedus's character is one of the two current parts of the franchise, the question arises: is The Walking Dead really coming to an end soon?

The other series currently airing is titled Dead City, which focuses mainly on the characters Maggie and Negan. The third season is likely to appear in 2026, and the series does not have an official conclusion yet.

Seven Series

Since The Walking Dead began in 2010, several spin-offs have been released. The best known is undoubtedly Fear the Walking Dead, which started in 2015 and ended in 2023. After that, World Beyond and Tales of the Walking Dead debuted.

Last year, the well-received The Ones Who Live focused primarily on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne Grimes (Danai Gurira). This brings the total to seven series within the ongoing franchise.

Future

So far, only More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe is planned, according to Wikipedia. This was announced in 2023. After that, little has been heard about the continuation of Tales of the Walking Dead.

An eighth series has not yet been announced, and no new series were revealed during Comic-Con either. It seems we will have to make do with Daryl Dixon and Dead City for now. The latter series, in particular, showed a significant decline in viewership during season 2.

M. Night Shyamalan On The Film That Got 5% On Rotten Tomatoes: "You Just Don't Get It"

“You can dislike the movie, but The Last Airbender was my creative interpretation, and I stand by it firmly.”

M. Night Shyamalan is back on set with Jake Gyllenhaal for his new romantic thriller, while one of his most maligned films is back in the spotlight on streaming platforms. The Last Airbender, his adaptation of the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, scored only 5% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film grossed $319 million worldwide, just enough to justify its $150 million production budget. However, despite its decent earnings and stars like Dev Patel and Cliff Curtis, the film has been regarded as a low point in Shyamalan's career for years. In a 2013 interview with Demand Entertainment, the director reacted to the scathing reviews.

"Critics No Longer Understand Me"

In the interview, Shyamalan expressed his frustration over the reception of The Last Airbender. According to him, critics have lost touch with his vision, which he believes has been happening for several years. He pointed to "changing tone" in his films, like his departure from typical American narrative structures, as a possible reason for the disconnect with audiences and the press.

The director defended his choices, despite the film having few similarities with the beloved animated series on which it was based. He explained that filming such a layered story within the confines of a single feature was nearly impossible, and that he purposefully chose a different approach.

From 5% To Cult Status?

Although the film was panned upon its release, The Last Airbender seems to be experiencing a second life through streaming platforms. The enduring popularity of the original animated series plays a significant role in this resurgence.

Shyamalan is now fully active in Hollywood again, with films like Old and Knock at the Cabin, and is currently working on a new film featuring his daughter Saleka as well.

Impressive Filmography

Shyamalan's biggest success remains The Sixth Sense from 1999, which scored 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $672 million worldwide. Still, the director is not discouraged by low scores.

Netflix Cancels Millions Contract With Prince Harry And Meghan Markle

Netflix is ending its collaboration with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex due to disappointing viewership and results.

Five years after signing a mega-contract, the collaboration between Netflix and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is coming to an end. The streaming service has decided not to renew the $100 million contract with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, which has been in effect since 2020. Once touted as promising, the deal has not lived up to expectations.

According to sources close to the platform, there are no disputes. The collaboration is said to have simply run its course. However, a second season of the series With Love, Meghan is still set to be released this fall, despite the first season's low viewership. Since its launch on March 4, it never rose higher than number 383 on the global Netflix rankings.

Harry's Project Also Flopped

The other major project, Heart of Invictus, for which Harry signed on as an executive producer, premiered on December 10 but was viewed by barely half a million people. Only the much-discussed docuseries Harry & Meghan from 2022 was a success and remains noted as the most-watched documentary debut on the platform.

Netflix confirms through insiders that the success of the docuseries was sufficient reason for a follow-up, but that this also marks the last project they will contribute to. "They delivered what they needed to deliver, but it's clear that the audience has since moved on," said an anonymous source to The Sun.

Markle Moves On Elsewhere

Despite the disappointing numbers, Meghan was able to launch her lifestyle brand As Ever through With Love, Meghan. According to Netflix chief Ted Sarandos, the platform played a passive role in that development. "For us, it's a way to explore new content and ideas without directly investing ourselves," he explained earlier.

Jake Sully Undergoes A Major Transformation In 'Avatar: Fire And Ash'

In the new film 'Avatar: Fire and Ash', Jake Sully endures deep emotional challenges and confronts new threats as he grapples with past traumas. This transformation will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

Avatar is returning soon. In December, Avatar: Fire and Ash will release, the third part in James Cameron's sci-fi saga. We just received the first trailer.

The film follows the story of Avatar: The Way of Water. That was a harsh experience for main characters Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña): their eldest son lost his life.

Broken Love

In the new film, the two are burdened with much pain. The trailer hints that this causes tension in their relationship, and Worthington now reveals that they even separate for a while. "That's a great concept from James," he says.

The actor explains: "How do you tear apart the perfect love story? Jake and Neytiri share this painful experience, but they seem unable to heal each other."

Warrior

In Fire and Ash, Jake will therefore return to his old ways. He throws himself into the fight against a new enemy, the aggressive Na'vi tribe of the Ash People.

How this concludes will be revealed in December. The film is likely to earn massive profits again: the previous installments each grossed over $2 billion. Watch the trailer for the third part here.

You’ll Be Shocked To Hear Which Superhero Steven Seagal Nearly Played

Imagine a world where Steven Seagal plays a superhero alongside Jack Nicholson.

Can you imagine? Oscar winner Jack Nicholson, the man of many faces and characters, against a rising star with just one expression who always plays the same type?

In 1989 it nearly became a reality when the producers of Tim Burton's new Batman film actively lobbied to cast none other than actor Steven Seagal opposite Nicholson's Joker.

Tougher Appearance

Fans wanted a dark and serious incarnation after the campy TV series with Adam West, and there was significant resistance against Burton's choice, the then 38-year-old Michael Keaton, primarily known for comedies.

Seagal made his on-screen debut in the 1988 film Above the Law. His appearance was different from that of Stallone or Schwarzenegger, and with his fresh and unique fighting style, he caught the audience's attention.

Burton Stood Firm

We know how it ended, and in hindsight, we are glad about it, as Keaton has stolen our hearts. Because as Batman, Seagal would certainly have delivered convincing blows and kicks, but how wooden and emotionless would his Bruce Wayne have become?
