Here We Go Again: 'Dune 3' Under Fire For "too White" Cast

Is it still possible to enjoy films without being criticized over every aspect of them?

It seems almost a fact these days: If you make a film with a primarily black cast, you're doing great. But if you do this with a predominantly white cast, it’s deemed racist and you're considered more wrong than wrong.

The same is now happening to the long-awaited project Dune: Part Three by Denis Villeneuve. This is receiving a lot of backlash on several social media platforms after the lead actors were announced.

A True A-ensemble

Villeneuve has of course brought back Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson, with Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Pattinson joining the ensemble.

An impressive roster of names, but despite all of these stars being extremely talented actors, they are mainly white, and this is enough reason for some people to complain.

"Are There No Darker Skin Tones In This Universe?"

The criticism largely stems from the fact that author Frank Herbert drew inspiration for his books from cultures in Africa and the Middle East. Something that this cast does not adequately reflect.
