What Do We Actually Know About The Long-awaited Film 'Star Wars: Starfighter'

This new chapter in the Star Wars saga promises thrilling adventures.

It's been almost six years since a Star Wars film graced the big screen. During this time, numerous Star Wars series have hit the platform, yet fans still long for the cinematic experience. Next year, The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released theatrically, and in 2027, Star Wars: Starfighter will premiere.

Director Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) is at the helm of this mysterious new chapter in the Star Wars universe. In this article, you will find all the information we have about the project so far.

Reveal And Details

Star Wars: Starfighter was officially announced this year during the annual Star Wars Celebration event. Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, and Shawn Levy also revealed the lead actor. It turned out to be none other than Ryan Gosling.

Starfighter is set five to six years after the events of Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker and has no connections to the previous films.

Villain And Story

Last month, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Mia Goth, best known for the X trilogy, has been cast as the film’s villain. Oscar winner Mikey Madison (Anora) turned down this role. We also have some plot details already.

The film reportedly follows Gosling's character on a mission with his fifteen-year-old nephew. They are being pursued by two evil figures.

Release

Since Goth's casting, not much news has been released about the film, but according to Levy, they are deep in pre-production. Filming is set to start this fall, so new cast members will be announced soon.

Star Wars: Starfighter is set to be released in theaters on May 28, 2027. Fans can enjoy The Mandalorian & Grogu almost exactly a year earlier, as it will premiere on May 22, 2026.

The introduction to 28 Years Later sets an ominous tone, establishing a gripping atmosphere that draws viewers into the film's emotional depth.

The new horror film 28 Years Later begins with a scene that grabs you by the throat immediately. The tone is threatening and deeply human, a rare combination that sets the stage for what follows.

Director Danny Boyle returns to the universe he established in 2002 with 28 Days Later, and the result is an opening scene that is both thrilling and symbolic. Even before a single zombie appears on screen, you can feel the impending threat in every glance, every whispered word.

Return Of A Legend

28 Years Later takes place nearly three decades after the original outbreak of the Rage virus. On a remote island, a group of survivors tries to live within a heavily guarded quarantine. When one of them crosses over to the mainland, he stumbles upon bizarre secrets, and what remains of humanity.

Starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, the story unfolds as a grim journey filled with horror and humanity. The atmosphere and cinematography stand out: much handheld work, drab colors, and abrupt transitions.

A Memorable Beginning

What makes this film remarkable is how quickly it strikes an emotional chord. The opening minutes do not rely on jump scares or gore, but on an existential threat. It is silent, charged, and suffocating. And when the child asks if this is truly the end, you know: this will not be a light ride.

It turns out to be a smart move: by not diving straight into action, Boyle opts for tension that builds in your gut. The viewer is not blown away by chaos, but ensnared in fear.

A Promising Start To A Trilogy

According to early reactions, 28 Years Later is the first installment of a new trilogy, where the post-apocalyptic United Kingdom is not just a zombie land, but also a political metaphor. Brexit, climate threats, and populism resonate through dialogues and visual symbolism, without forgetting the horror.

Anyone who thought the third part of this saga would be unnecessary is mistaken. With this opening scene, Danny Boyle proves he still knows how to build suspense without falling into clichés.

Disney+ Aims To Showcase One Of The Biggest Fantasy Franchises In Years But Fails Miserably

The adaptation of "ACOTAR" by Disney has struggled to gain traction and is facing multiple setbacks.

Disney had gold in its grasp with one of the most popular fantasy books in recent years, but could not translate the success to the screen. The series adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) was prepared for years but ended in disappointment. Ronald D. Moore, known for Outlander, was long involved with the project but ultimately closed the door behind him.

In 2021, Moore was announced as the showrunner for the adaptation of Sarah J. Maas's popular book series. The series was intended for Hulu, which falls under Disney. In the Netherlands, this series was then set to appear on Disney+. What initially seemed to be an ambitious fantasy series ended up stalled after years of preparation. During the San Diego Comic-Con, Moore himself confirmed his departure.

Disrupted Development

Moore indicated that the circumstances within Disney made the work impossible. "It wasn't really my decision," he stated. "The development was chaotic. First COVID, then strikes, leadership changes... all of that held the project back. Eventually, I just left." According to Moore, the series has still not been officially canceled, but further progress is absent.

Although Moore dealt with the project for years, he has no interest in reviving the series elsewhere. "No, probably not. I put a lot of time into it, but it didn't work out, so I'm just moving on," said Moore. His detached attitude speaks volumes about the frustration behind the scenes.

No More News

The status of the series is now uncertain. In February 2025, it was reported that Hulu had abandoned the plans. Since then, there has been no news about a possible takeover by other platforms, despite the popularity of the book series among fantasy and romance fans.

ACOTAR revolves around Feyre Acheron, a young woman who finds herself in a magical world after killing a mysterious creature. What begins as a variant on Beauty and the Beast, grows into a larger tale about conflicts between realms, intrigues at court, and forbidden relationships between mortals and immortals.

First Reviews Of 'The Naked Gun': Hit Or Miss?

The new reboot of 'The Naked Gun' has received surprisingly positive reviews from critics. It showcases a blend of humor and nostalgia that appeals to fans and newcomers alike.

Director Akiva Schaffer, known for works like Hot Rod and Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, has taken on the challenge of rebooting a beloved slapstick classic. This time, it's the much-anticipated The Naked Gun, a new version of the film series from the 80s starring Leslie Nielsen. The reception has been overwhelmingly positive!

In The Naked Gun, Liam Neeson steps into the shoes of Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original inspector. Along with his partner, he attempts to unravel a dark conspiracy within the Los Angeles police force. The film, characterized by physical humor and quick-witted remarks, currently boasts a Tomatometer score of an impressive 91%, following 112 reviews.

Hearty Laughter Episodes

According to Bilge Ebiri from New York Magazine, the film is "so funny that you literally fall off your chair laughing". He recommends watching it in a packed theater, as the collective experience enhances the humor. Ebiri even describes it as a film that "could heal you. Maybe even the world."

Robbie Collin from The Daily Telegraph sees it as a unique cinematic experience. He writes that you should watch the film with an audience, because "you then experience the rare joy of a room desperately trying to keep pace with one of the dumbest films ever." According to him, that chaos adds to the enjoyment.

An Ode To Absurdity

John Nugent from Empire Magazine praises the film for its effective slapstick. He states that "the chance of belly laughs is greater than in any recent film" and compares the feeling to a typical Drebin quote: "twenty years of human laughter."

Jake Coyle from the Associated Press offers a more critical take. He finds it tempting to give the film more credit than it deserves merely for the fact of its existence. He states that "the best thing about this reboot is that it may send you back to the original." According to Coyle, the new version does not reach that level.

Decreasing Joke Density

Ty Burr from the Washington Post partly agrees. He points out a strong start with a high joke density of around 75 percent. However, as the film progresses, that density drops. "You can feel the disappointment rising as the quality of the jokes decreases," Burr notes.

Here We Go Again: 'Dune 3' Under Fire For "too White" Cast

Is it still possible to enjoy films without being criticized over every aspect of them?

It seems almost a fact these days: If you make a film with a primarily black cast, you're doing great. But if you do this with a predominantly white cast, it’s deemed racist and you're considered more wrong than wrong.

The same is now happening to the long-awaited project Dune: Part Three by Denis Villeneuve. This is receiving a lot of backlash on several social media platforms after the lead actors were announced.

A True A-ensemble

Villeneuve has of course brought back Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson, with Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Pattinson joining the ensemble.

An impressive roster of names, but despite all of these stars being extremely talented actors, they are mainly white, and this is enough reason for some people to complain.

"Are There No Darker Skin Tones In This Universe?"

The criticism largely stems from the fact that author Frank Herbert drew inspiration for his books from cultures in Africa and the Middle East. Something that this cast does not adequately reflect.

Netflix Breathes New Life Into 200 Million Dollar Fantasy Spectacle

Netflix is resurrecting a major adaptation of Narnia, directed by Greta Gerwig, showcasing their commitment to fantasy filmmaking.

Netflix is revving up its ambitious adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. Following earlier reports of delays, the production of the costly fantasy film is now back on track. Filming is scheduled to start in September.

With an estimated budget of 200 million dollars, the new Narnia film is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by Netflix. The direction is in the hands of Greta Gerwig, known for Barbie. She has strongly advocated for a wide theatrical release, which is rare for a Netflix production. The film will not only premiere in theaters globally but also in IMAX.

Filming

Initially, filming was set to begin in July, but that proved unfeasible. According to fan site NarniaWeb, pre-production is now in its final stages, allowing cameras to start rolling in September after all. The delay appears to have been largely caught up.

It’s notable that Netflix has opted for a traditional theatrical release for this title. The streaming service usually has a different strategy: direct release on the platform, sometimes preceded by a limited showing in a small number of theaters. For Narnia, a comprehensive approach has been taken, ensuring the film will be showcased in the largest theaters across the country.

Cast

While not all the cast members have been announced, several big names have already been confirmed. Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, and Emma Mackey are involved in the adaptation, which sources say focuses on the book The Magician’s Nephew. This makes it the first time this part has been used as the basis for a film adaptation.
