Which Version? First 'Star Wars' Returns To Theaters For 50th Anniversary
As the 50th anniversary of 'Star Wars' approaches, fans eagerly anticipate its return to theaters, creating great excitement.
In May 2027, Star Wars will turn 50 years old, and that needs to be celebrated. Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that they will be re-releasing the first film in the sci-fi franchise, A New Hope, in theaters.
However, it is still unclear which version of the film will be released. This is an important detail, as the Star Wars films are known for having multiple versions.
This is due to George Lucas. The creator/director of the franchise was long unhappy with the theatrical versions of the original films. Thus, he re-released them in the 1990s.
The 'Special Editions' featured a number of changes. New scenes were added, and Lucas modified existing scenes, sometimes with CGI and different music.
Not everyone was pleased with the changes. However, Lucas considered the Special Editions to be the 'correct' versions and continued to adjust the films repeatedly.
Nowadays, the original editions are almost nowhere to be found, which many fans regret. There is hope that the re-release in 2027 will bring back those editions. But whether that will happen, we will have to wait and see.
