'Dune' Actor Doesn't Want To Be The New James Bond: "To Be Honest..."

Austin Butler believes that James Bond should remain a British character, and he feels he isn't the right fit for the role.

Every film enthusiast has known for years that Daniel Craig will not be returning as James Bond. He was last seen as beloved 007 in No Time to Die, leaving the search for a replacement underway. However, one major actor has zero interest in the role.

Many names have been suggested, such as Idris Elba and Henry Cavill, but both may be considered slightly 'too old', especially since rumors suggest a younger Bond would perfectly fit a reboot to last longer.

Other Names

As a result, younger actors are being mentioned more frequently, including Austin Butler. The 34-year-old actor has already made a name for himself in Elvis, The Bikeriders, and Dune: Part Two, and is seen as one of Hollywood's greatest talents.

It's not surprising that many film fans see him as a viable 007 option, especially since Dune director Denis Villeneuve will be taking on the new Bond blockbuster. But what does Butler think about this himself?

Reaction

In a recent interview, Butler stated: "I am a huge fan of everything Denis is involved with, but I haven't heard anything about a James Bond project. To be honest, I don't think I'm the right choice for this".

"I'm American. Of course, I could imitate an English or British accent, but in my opinion, that goes 'against the rules.' Bond is simply a Brit. I would love to play a villain, though. I'm definitely open to that!"

No Thanks

This isn't the first time a major star has turned down the role. Other actors who have previously expressed their lack of interest include Glen Powell (due to his American roots), Theo James (who feels hesitant), and Taron Egerton (who believes he isn't the right person to take over the mantle).
