Netflix Hit Conquers The Globe: This Unexpected Miniseries Shoots To Number 1 In More Than 50 Countries Worldwide
The miniseries Hostage captivates audiences with its thrilling political drama and diverse international cast, drawing viewers in.
Netflix has a new leader on its hands. Since August 21, the miniseries Hostage has topped the global charts, even surpassing the second season of Wednesday.
Within days of its release, Hostage claimed the number one spot in 52 countries, maintaining that position in 41 of them. In the Netherlands, the series is currently also number 1. This makes it quite a remarkable miniseries in Netflix's offering. With a runtime of just over three and a half hours, the production can be watched in one evening.
The story revolves around British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, played by Suranne Jones, and French President Vivienne Toussaint, portrayed by Julie Delpy. The two face off in heated debates but are forced to collaborate when personal and political crises collide. Dalton sees her husband kidnapped and receives a deadly threat, while Toussaint becomes a victim of blackmail.
The intrigue compels the leaders to temporarily set aside their differences. Together, they try to unravel who is behind the kidnapping and the threats, as the situation becomes increasingly dangerous. The thriller deliberately combines political power plays with personal vulnerability.
Alongside Jones and Delpy, Lucian Msamati, Corey Mylchreest, Ashley Thomas, Hiftu Quasem, and Isobel Akuwudike also star. The script is by Matt Charman, known for Bridge of Spies. The mix of international names and the compact format makes the series appealing to a global audience.
