Prime Video Embarks On Unprecedented Adventure: Fabulous Video Game Becomes A Thrilling Series

Amazon is set to produce a series based on the video game God of War, bringing the beloved franchise to life like never before.

For years, there has been talk of a television adaptation of the PlayStation hit God of War, and it finally seems to be happening. Amazon Studios is reportedly set to start filming in Vancouver early next year, marking a new phase for the series. The project has a long history with multiple changes behind the scenes, but it's gaining real traction now.

Nexus Point News indicate that the official start of production is scheduled for March 2026. This means that casting is already at an advanced stage. An announcement is expected later this year regarding who will take on the role of the hero Kratos. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see how the iconic video game character will be portrayed in live-action.

Focus On The Norse Era

The first season of the series will consist of ten episodes. The creators are not focusing on the classic Greek mythology that characterized the early games, but rather the more recent Norse era. The central relationship between Kratos and his son Atreus will form the heart of the story. According to those involved, the tone of the games should be closely approached.

On the creative side, there have been many changes over the past few years. Originally, the creators of The Expanse, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, were attached to the project, with Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) as showrunner. However, Sony and Amazon decided to take the project in a different direction, leading to the departure of this team.

New Direction Under Ronald D. Moore

Since then, Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica, For All Mankind, and Outlander, has been appointed as head writer, showrunner, and executive producer. This suggests that God of War is now definitively on track for a cinematic adaptation, although true fans will still have to wait and see how faithfully the series follows the source material.[/b]
