A New Spin-off Is In The Works, 'The Boys: Mexico'

Prime Video is developing a Mexican spin-off of The Boys that brings a fresh and unexpected tone to the series.

Prime Video is expanding the world of The Boys with a new spin-off set entirely in Mexico. Showrunner Eric Kripke has shared an initial update, emphasizing that the series will differ significantly in style from the original series.

In a chat with Collider, Kripke mentioned that work is currently underway on the pilot episode of The Boys: Mexico. The project is truly fun to create and has a completely different tone than The Boys, he expressed. It takes place in the same world, but feels fresh and surprising. Diego Luna and Gael Garc Bernal are closely involved as producers, which is immensely valuable for us.

New Spin-off In Development

The series is written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, known for Blue Beetle. While details about the story are still missing, it’s clear that production will predominantly take place in Mexico. Kripke emphasized that the quality must align with previous spin-offs, while also allowing for its own direction.

There is speculation that Luna and Bernal, who broke through in 2001 with Y Tu Mam Tambi], may have roles in the series. According to Kripke, those roles won’t be lead roles but rather supporting roles or guest appearances. For now, their involvement is of great importance behind the scenes.

Expansion Of The Universe

The plans for [i]The Boys: Mexico
come at a time when the franchise is thriving. The fifth and final season of The Boys will debut in 2026, while the second season of Gen V premieres on September 17. Additionally, work is also being done on the prequel Vought Rising and the animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical. This indicates that Prime Video is far from done with this successful universe for the foreseeable future.
