The Latest 'Conjuring' Film Was A Monster Hit, But There's Bad News Now

Director Michael Chaves indicates that the plans for the franchise remain unchanged and there won't be any more films.

Last month, The Conjuring: Last Rites hit theaters. The fourth installment in the beloved horror series was not exactly well-received by critics, yet it still performed well at the box office.

Worldwide, the film has already grossed over $477 million. That’s significantly more than the first three films. You might think that studio Warner Bros. would immediately want to start working on part five.

Bad News

The truth, however, is different. According to Last Rites director Michael Chaves, the plans for the franchise are actually unchanged. And that means: no more films.

"It's over," said the director. "This is the final chapter. That’s why we named it Last Rites. It is the last one. There won't be any more Conjuring films. This is definitely the end."

Other Plans

This is undoubtedly very bad news for fans of the series. They probably would have loved to see more adventures of Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren.

Nevertheless, there are rumors that the franchise will continue on the small screen. According to Variety, a Conjuring series is in the works for streaming.
