HBO's Fantasy Series Gets A Huge Expansion: Multiple Seasons Of 'Game Of Thrones' Announced Until 2028
HBO announces upcoming seasons for two Game of Thrones franchise series through 2028, much to the delight of fans.
HBO has confirmed that new seasons will be released in the coming years for two series within the Game of Thrones universe. Both A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon will be available on the HBO Max streaming service at least until 2028.
The announcement was made during a press event in New York City by Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content. It was revealed that the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will debut in January 2026, followed by the second season in 2027.
The third season of House of the Dragon is scheduled for summer 2026. However, HBO has already given the green light for a fourth season, which is expected to air in 2028.
Francesca Orsi, head of HBO Drama Series, said: "We are excited to offer fans new chapters in George R.R. Martin's world over the next three years. The story of Dunk and Egg provides an inspiring underdog perspective, and House of the Dragon will once again feature some of the most epic battles to date."
The leading roles in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are played by Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg. Other roles are portrayed by Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, and Danny Webb. The series is based on the work of George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker.
Returning for the third season of House of the Dragon are Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Rhys Ifans. The series is set about 200 years before Game of Thrones and is based on the book Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin.
With this multi-year plan, HBO underscores its confidence in the Game of Thrones universe. The world of Westeros will thus remain prominently featured on the streaming platform.
