'Stranger Things' Creators Unveil Chilling New Sci-Fi Series This Year
With the Stranger Things finale dropped, the Duffer brothers are making waves once again with a project that takes a distinctly different direction.
With the finale of Stranger Things on the horizon, the Duffer brothers are making waves again with a project that charts a distinctly different course. Netflix has confirmed that their new sci-fi series, The Boroughs, is slated for release sometime in 2026.
The first images showcase stars like Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, and Alfre Woodard in various settings, keeping the core plot largely under wraps. However, we do know the series centers on residents of a retirement community banding together to stop a supernatural entity intent on stealing the few years they have left. Joining the four leads as series regulars are Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, Jena Malone, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg.
The total episode count remains unconfirmed. Recurring roles feature Rafael Casal, Ed Begley Jr., Jane Kaczmarek, Eric Edelstein, Dee Wallace, and Mousa Hussein Kraish. While Matt and Ross Duffer serve as executive producers through their Upside Down Pictures banner, The Boroughs was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, with Ben Taylor handling directing duties.
This series is one of two new titles the Duffers are attached to for 2026. The other production, titled Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, follows an engaged couple swept up in a chaotic chain of events the week before their wedding. That project features Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco in lead roles, with Haley Z Boston serving as showrunner.
With The Boroughs, the creators are focusing on older protagonists for the first time, marking a distinct departure from their previous work. The exact release date is still unknown, as is whether it will premiere before the Duffers conclude their Netflix contract in April 2026.
