Disappointment Ahead: 'Wednesday', 'Untamed' And Other Major Netflix Titles Won't Return In 2026

Many popular Netflix series won't be returning to screens until 2027, forcing audiences to exercise more patience for their favorites.

Anyone hoping to see new seasons of several major Netflix series in 2026 will need to exercise a bit more patience. The list of titles for next year is notably missing many audience favorites, including Wednesday, Ginny and Georgia, Untamed, and Ransom Canyon.

Netflix has unveiled its television schedule for 2026, featuring dozens of new and returning productions, such as the final seasons of Outer Banks and The Witcher, along with new episodes of Bridgerton, One Piece, and Beef. However, it appears that several titles are not on the docket for the coming year and are therefore not expected until 2027. International series like Supacell, Dept Q, Bet, and Geek Girl are also missing from the schedule.

Why These Series Are Being Pushed Back

The delay for Wednesday is understandable. The production demands a lot of time, and the second season took nearly three years to arrive, partly due to the strikes in 2023. Although the series was renewed early for a third season and casting has already begun, a new batch of episodes isn't expected until 2027. Ginny and Georgia has also been following a two-year cycle for years. Season 4 is currently in production and is also scheduled for a 2027 release.

Filming for the second season is still underway for Ransom Canyon and Forever. Both series debuted in 2025 and were given the green light for follow-up episodes shortly after, but the schedule points to a release in early 2027. Regarding the crime series Untamed, starring Eric Bana, the first season was originally set up as a miniseries, and redeveloping it into an ongoing series requires extra time.

International Titles Facing Delays Too

The delays aren't just affecting American productions. The superhero drama Supacell is sliding back at least two and a half years because filming for Season 2 started later. Dept Q is now in production and is also aiming for a 2027 release. Notably absent are Geek Girl and the third and final season of Heartbreak High, both of which have been wrapped for some time but still haven't been included in the 2026 schedule. It seems 2027 will be the next opportunity for many Netflix viewers to see a large portion of these series return.

After A Brutal Three-Year Wait, This Unparalleled Series Finally Returns To Netflix

After a long silence surrounding the future of Beef, it is finally clear when Netflix will release the second season.

After a long silence surrounding the future of Beef, it is finally clear when Netflix will release the second season. The series, which grew into a much-discussed title in 2023, returns this spring, but this time with a completely new cast and setting.

Netflix has confirmed that Season 2 of Beef will premiere on April 16. The series will consist of eight episodes of approximately thirty minutes each and is making the switch to an anthology format. While the first season revolved around a road rage incident spiraling out of control, the new story follows a young couple working at an exclusive country club. They witness an escalating feud between their boss and his wife, played by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny portray the central couple, with supporting roles for Song Kang-ho and Yuh-Jung Youn.

New intrigues within a closed world

Creator Lee Sung Jin returns as showrunner and remains involved as an executive producer. Steven Yeun and Ali Wong also remain attached behind the scenes, along with directors Jake Schreier and Kitao Sakurai and producers Ethan Kuperberg and Anna Moench. According to the official description, the new season revolves around a web of favors and power dynamics within an elitist environment led by a Korean billionaire.

That Beef would become an anthology series was only formally confirmed in late 2024. During the awards season of 2023, Lee had already indicated he wanted to expand the world of the series with standalone stories. The first season, which appeared over three years ago, followed two strangers whose lives became dangerously intertwined after a traffic conflict and garnered multiple awards.

'Stranger Things' Creators Unveil Chilling New Sci-Fi Series This Year

With the Stranger Things finale dropped, the Duffer brothers are making waves once again with a project that takes a distinctly different direction.

With the finale of Stranger Things on the horizon, the Duffer brothers are making waves again with a project that charts a distinctly different course. Netflix has confirmed that their new sci-fi series, The Boroughs, is slated for release sometime in 2026.

The first images showcase stars like Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, and Alfre Woodard in various settings, keeping the core plot largely under wraps. However, we do know the series centers on residents of a retirement community banding together to stop a supernatural entity intent on stealing the few years they have left. Joining the four leads as series regulars are Clarke Peters, Denis O’Hare, Jena Malone, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg.

Battling Time Itself

The total episode count remains unconfirmed. Recurring roles feature Rafael Casal, Ed Begley Jr., Jane Kaczmarek, Eric Edelstein, Dee Wallace, and Mousa Hussein Kraish. While Matt and Ross Duffer serve as executive producers through their Upside Down Pictures banner, The Boroughs was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, with Ben Taylor handling directing duties.

This series is one of two new titles the Duffers are attached to for 2026. The other production, titled Something Very Bad is Going to Happen, follows an engaged couple swept up in a chaotic chain of events the week before their wedding. That project features Camila Morrone and Adam DiMarco in lead roles, with Haley Z Boston serving as showrunner.

Life After Hawkins

With The Boroughs, the creators are focusing on older protagonists for the first time, marking a distinct departure from their previous work. The exact release date is still unknown, as is whether it will premiere before the Duffers conclude their Netflix contract in April 2026.

Netflix Just Dropped Their 2026 Preview—And It’s Insane!

Avatar: The Last Airbender... One Piece... The Gentlemen... And more is coming on Netflix in 2026.

With the future acquisition of Warner Bros. and its many sub-labels - including HBO Max - Netflix has taken a huge step in its growth ambitions. We probably won't notice much of that in 2026 yet. We mainly have to make do with the "own" otherwise fine originals.

The streaming giant has now released a particularly cool teaser for the biggest series and films appearing this year. This preview is so beautifully made that it is a small work of art in itself.

Major titles on Netflix

The footage starts with a girl following a cat and then entering a room with a fortune teller, played by Teyana Taylor (One Battle after Another). She is then presented with cards containing clues to series and movies that will appear on Netflix in 2026.

She then "flies" through titles such as Bridgerton (season 4), Avatar: The Last Airbender (season 2), One Piece (season 2), Lupin (season 4), Emily in Paris (season 6), The Gentlemen (season 2) and the films Enola Holmes 3 and Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, showing us first or creative footage.

Discover your future 2026

The teaser is accompanied on YouTube by the following text: "In 2026 you will be deceived and you will even like it. You will see old friends in a new light. You will finally look forward to family drama. And you might even buy a corset (deep breath). This year you question everything. What else will you discover?"
