Netflix Cancels Another New Series After 1 Season

Netflix has decided to cancel the medical drama 'Pulse' after just one season, reflecting a trend of short-lived shows on the platform.

The emergency room of Pulse is officially closing. Netflix has decided to cancel the medical drama series after one season. The last episode, which was released in early April, now serves as the series finale. There has been no official statement from Netflix yet, but the news arrives simultaneously with the cancellation of The Residence, another short-lived title from the platform.

Pulse revolved around the doctors at the Maguire Medical Center in Miami, focusing on the complex relationship between Danny Simms and Xander Phillips as the central storyline. Their affair put pressure on the workplace, where life and death are daily matters. As colleagues processed the impact of their secret romance, they struggled with emotional and professional dilemmas.

Cast

The lead roles were played by Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell. The cast also included names like Justina Machado, Jessie T. Usher, and Daniela Nieves. The series seemed to wrap up various storylines towards the end of the season, but many issues were left open for a potential continuation.

In the final episode, the emergency room's staff was restructured. Natalie Cruz had to step down from her dual position and watched as Patrick Sanchez was promoted to head of the department. That same Sanchez disregarded her recommendation for Danny as chief resident, instead opting for Dr. Elijah.

No Second Chances

Despite Pulse tapping into familiar themes, such as high-pressure relationships, moral dilemmas, and hospital rivalries, it failed to leave a lasting impression. Netflix's decision not to renew the series fits into a broader trend where new shows are given very little time to prove themselves.
