First Long-awaited Trailer For Brutal And Merciless 'Red Sonja'
The return of Red Sonja is highly anticipated, with thrilling adventures and relentless action featuring Mathilda Lutz.
It has taken a while, but after years of starts and stops, the moment has finally arrived: the return of Red Sonja. And as we can see in the first trailer, it includes brutal and fantastical elements from the comic books.
The trailer opens with a bloodbath for which Red Sonja seeks revenge. Although she is captured, it quickly becomes clear that nothing and no one will stand in her way. We see how the iconic character takes on a troop of soldiers, dressed only in her familiar bikini armor.
This marks the second time a film about the character hits the silver screen. The original film featuring Brigitte Nielsen dates back to 1985. In 2008, Robert Rodriguez tried again with Rose McGowan in the lead role, but that project unfortunately never got off the ground.
For a long time, rumors circulated that a new Red Sonja film was in the works. In 2018, it was reported that Bryan Singer was developing it, but this also came to nothing. Only in 2021 was it seriously picked up, ultimately leading to its release later this year.
In addition to the lead role performed by Mathilda Lutz (Revenge), she is joined by Robert Sheehan (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) and Michael Bisping (Michael Bisping). The direction is in the hands of M.J. Bassett, who previously directed Rogue.
Red Sonja will be in theaters from August 14 and will be released digitally on August 29.
