After 'Superman', The DC Universe Returns Next Month With A Comprehensive Series On HBO Max
Fans of DC can look forward to the return of Peacemaker in a new chapter of the universe, promising fresh adventures and connections to the recent Superman film.
The first images of the second season of Peacemaker have been released, showcasing the new direction of the DCU. The series returns at the end of August on HBO Max and seamlessly connects to the recent Superman film by James Gunn.
In the new season, Chris Smith, portrayed by John Cena, confronts Rick Flag Sr., the father of the deceased Rick Flag from The Suicide Squad. Thus, the series bridges the old DCEU and the new DCU that James Gunn and Peter Safran are building.
The trailer reveals Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, taking charge of A.R.G.U.S. and seeking revenge. His target: Peacemaker, who is held responsible for his son's death. Tim Meadows appears as A.R.G.U.S. agent Langston Fleury and Michael Rooker as hunter Red St. Wild, who has his sights set on Eagly.
Returning familiar faces include Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos. New names in the cast include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord.
The series no longer connects to the now-concluded DCEU but is part of the first phase of the DCU. James Gunn confirmed that the transition will be explicitly addressed in the new season. According to the synopsis, Peacemaker struggles with his past and his new moral compass while continuing his mission of 'peace at any cost.'
Peacemaker season 2 will be available on HBO Max starting August 21. The first season and the DCEU film The Suicide Squad, where Peacemaker debuts, are currently available on the streaming service.
