The Brutal German War Film 'Der Tiger' Resembles Famous And Furious War Movies, But Is Also Quite Different...

The impressive trailer for 'Der Tiger' reminds us of 'Fury', highlighting the horrors of war.

This week we released the trailer for the German war film Der Tiger, a production by Amazon Studios. The already impressive film will debut in theaters across Germany, and it draws comparisons to another significant tank movie: Fury.

Fury came out in 2014, directed by David Ayer, featuring actors Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, and Jon Bernthal in leading roles. The German Der Tiger is helmed by director Dennis Gansel, with main roles played by David Schütter, Laurence Rupp, and Leonard Kunz.

The Same, Yet Different

Both Der Tiger and Fury portray the horrors of war from the perspectives of individual soldiers. Both films emphasize how war breaks and binds people. The focus is not on strategy, but on personal survival instincts and moral complexity.

Fury is set in the final months of World War II, featuring American soldiers in a Sherman tank. Der Tiger follows German soldiers at the Eastern front in 1943, in a Tiger tank.

Hollywood

Another major difference is that Fury cost around $80 million to make, while Der Tiger is likely much cheaper. Fury grossed an impressive $211.8 million in 2014. Der Tiger can only dream of such figures.

Der Tiger premieres on September 18 in German cinemas, and later in 2025, the film will debut exclusively on Prime Video. Perhaps this and further promotion could lead to a release in theaters worldwide.
