The Zucker brothers and Jim Abrahams, the creators of Police Squad and The Naked Gun, were not in favor of this. Their wish came true: Paramount wanted to completely cut Nielsen from the film to save money, preventing the film from ever getting off the ground. The film released this week was developed ten years ago. Ed Harris was initially set to take on the role of Frank Drebin Jr., but Neeson quickly took over the part.
The reboot from director Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and producer Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy) finally hits theaters this week. Neeson is joined by stars such as Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Danny Huston, and Kevin Durand.
