Update your calendars because 2026 is suddenly looking a lot busier than expected. At the D23 event in the U.S., Disney announced a new animated film set to be released next year.

The film is titled Hexed and is directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand (Moana 2). The rest of the cast and crew have yet to be announced.

Fantasy Film

According to the official announcement, Hexed follows "an awkward teenage boy and his organized mother [who] discover that what makes him so unusual may well be magical powers that will turn their lives and a secret world of magic upside down."

This is a fantasy film, and the film's logo (see below) fits perfectly. Hexed will hit theaters in November 2026. An exact release date is not yet known.

Busy Year

With this announcement, Disney now has 4 animated films lined up for 2026. Hexed and Ice Age: Boiling Point are from Walt Disney Animation, while Pixar is responsible for Hoppers and Toy Story 5.

Starting in early September, Highest 2 Lowest will be available on Apple TV+. Directed by Spike Lee, known for BlacKkKlansman and Malcolm X, this film marks another collaboration with Denzel Washington, with whom he has created several memorable films before.

The cast is led by Washington, reaffirming his status as a Hollywood icon. He is joined by Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), Dean Winters (Oz), Ilfenesh Hadera (She's Gotta Have It), and rapper Ice Spice, who makes her acting debut here.

Exciting Musical Thriller

The crime thriller, a modern reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's classic High and Low, follows a successful music mogul in New York who suddenly faces a personal crisis. When the son of his chauffeur is kidnapped and ransom is demanded, he must choose between his reputation, career, and conscience.

Currently, the film holds a rating of 6.7 on IMDb based on around 2100 votes. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an 86% on the Tomatometer and a 90% on the Audience Score. The Critics Consensus reads: "Spike Lee and Denzel Washington remix a classic with vibrantly contemporary results in Highest 2 Lowest, a confident thriller that lovingly shines a light on New York City."

In January 2025, the action-comedy Back in Action premiered on Netflix, starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx. The film quickly became the most-watched Netflix film of 2025, with over 165 million views. It combined humor with spectacular action scenes and marked Diaz's return after a ten-year hiatus.

In Back in Action, Diaz plays a former CIA spy who interrupts her retirement to complete a new mission. Her character is clever, strong, and ready to tackle a hidden threat while protecting her family. Jamie Foxx stands by her side in a balanced mix of action and comedy.

Casting And Crew

Alongside Diaz and Foxx, Andrew Scott, Kyle Chandler, and Glenn Close round out the cast. The film is written and directed by Seth Gordon, known for works like Baywatch (2017) and Horrible Bosses (2011). For Diaz, this was a notable comeback; her last leading roles were in 2014 with films such as Annie and Sex Tape. In interviews at that time, she indicated that this could be her last acting project.

The plot centers around Matt and Emily, seemingly ordinary parents who are actually trained secret agents. Their double life leads to both comedic situations and thrilling confrontations, with family always at the heart of the story.

Release And Reception

Back in Action became available on Netflix starting January 17, 2025. While the action-comedy has seen significant viewership, it unfortunately receives a poor IMDb rating of 5.9.

Another series has been cancelled prematurely. The drama series Motorheads, set in an American auto shop, will not continue after its first season. Despite the enthusiasm from a group of fans, the streaming service decided to halt production.

According to producer Jason Seagraves, the goal was to create a family-friendly series without a hidden agenda. "Although we are disappointed that Motorheads will not be continuing on Prime Video, we are proud of the result. The viewers' engagement has given us new energy, and we hope to find a partner who believes in the project," Seagraves stated.

Story And Characters

The story revolved around Zac and Caitlyn, a twin duo who moved with their mother Samantha from Brooklyn to the town of Ironwood in Pennsylvania. There, they became entangled in the life of Logan, a former NASCAR driver running a local garage. Their lives soon intertwined with the small community and the automotive world that centered around it.

Alongside Michael Cimino and Melissa Collazo as the twins, there were roles for Nathalie Kelley as the mother and Ryan Phillippe as the ex-driver. Uriah Shelton, Nicolas Cantu, and Phillippe's son Deacon were also part of the cast.

Uncertain Future

The first season consisted of ten episodes and was fully released on Prime Video in May. Producers are now exploring whether another network or streaming service is willing to take over the series so that the storyline may continue. For now, the future of Motorheads remains highly uncertain.

The town of Silver Falls opens its doors once again as My Life with the Walter Boys returns with a second season. The new series has just premiered on Netflix, once again following the life of Jackie Howard, played by Nikki Rodriguez. Familiar faces Noah LaLonde and Ashby Gentry also return in a season that further deepens the dynamics between the characters. The series is quite popular, ranking number one among the most-watched shows on Netflix, in 53 countries worldwide.

The first season showcased how Jackie moved from Manhattan to Colorado after the death of her parents. There, she found herself in the busy household of the Walter family and developed feelings for the brothers Alex and Cole. The season concluded with a dramatic departure to New York, opening the door for new twists.

New Beginnings

In the second season, Jackie is a year older and seeks to balance her own ambitions and her feelings for the Walter brothers. Showrunner Melanie Halsall emphasizes that this season includes grander storylines.

LaLonde describes returning to Silver Falls as “a warm reunion that felt like coming home for both cast and crew.” Rodriguez highlights that her character this season primarily tries to figure out where she belongs.

Book And Series

While the first season was based on the novel of the same name by Ali Novak, this season takes its own course. New characters and themes introduce surprising twists, and the love triangle between Jackie, Alex, and Cole gains more intensity. Halsall indicates that the series consciously differs from the book: “We wanted to go beyond the source material and really tell our own stories.”

Spin-offs often require patience, but The Terminal List: Dark Wolf delivers. The action thriller currently ranks high in the Top 10s worldwide.

The series is developed by David DiGilio and inspired by the book series by Jack Carr. The main roles are played by Taylor Kitsch, Tom Hopper, Dar Salim, Luke Hemsworth, Robert Wisdom, and Rona-Lee Shimon.

Reception

The reactions on Rotten Tomatoes are promising: the production is received with much enthusiasm. On the Tomatometer, the score is 71%. The Audience Score shows a rating of 88%.

Synopsis

On September 3, the live-action remake Lilo & Stitch will premiere on Disney+. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, known for the charming indie film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, which received international acclaim for its creative approach.

The film - the only Hollywood film with a box office score of over 1 billion dollars - features a star-studded cast including Chris Sanders, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, and Zach Galifianakis. Jason Scott Lee and Courtney B. Vance also make appearances.
