Florence Pugh Disgusted With This Film: "I Just Needed The Money"

Despite her regrets, the actress emphasizes that she has learned an important lesson about choosing her projects more wisely.

Florence Pugh has already created numerous gems in her career. Think of Little Women, Midsommar and Dune: Part Two, to name just a few. She seems to handle any genre effortlessly, but not every project in her career is equally dear to her...

The actress, who recently appeared on 'The Louis Theroux Podcast', revealed that she regrets one specific project—the Netflix horror film Malevolent from 2018. In this film, Pugh portrays Angela Sayers, a young woman who conducts fake paranormal investigations with her brother, until they find themselves in a real haunted house.

What A Shame

Although the film wasn’t completely panned (with 55% on Rotten Tomatoes), Pugh hasn’t had much good to say about it: "I've never watched it. It's probably the only film I wish I had never made".

"Back then it was different. I was younger and desperately needed money, thinking: 'This is going to be great.' But once I was there, it sadly turned out not to be the case. So yes, I regret it, but you also learn from it".

More Experience

Pugh continues that since this 'misstep' she selects her scripts carefully based on challenge and growth: "Each script must contain a moment that doesn’t scare me because of the genre but because I’m not sure if I can handle it".

Pugh: "That’s what attracts me, that I have to step out of my comfort zone. For example, during a stunt in 'Thunderbolts,' I had to jump off the second-highest building in the world while acting. That was a huge test, but that’s exactly what makes the work exciting".

Should Netflix Continue With This Fantasy Series? The Ratings Of 'The Witcher' Are Indeed Collapsing

The popularity of 'The Witcher' has dramatically declined following the lead actor change and long break.

It once seemed like one of Netflix's biggest successes, but the magic of The Witcher appears to have worn off. The start of the fourth season has dropped dramatically according to new figures. While earlier seasons attracted millions of viewers, the series is now facing a historic low in popularity.

The Witcher tells the story of Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter who seeks his way in a dark world filled with magic and betrayal. When his path crosses that of Princess Ciri and sorceress Yennefer, he becomes embroiled in a battle that will determine the fate of the realm. The series, based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, has been globally acclaimed, particularly for Henry Cavill's strong portrayal of Geralt.

Significant Decline

However, since Cavill's departure after season three, where actor Liam Hemsworth took over, the enthusiasm has significantly faded. According to Netflix's figures, season four was viewed only 7.4 million times in its first week, a drop of over 50% compared to the previous season. External measurement agencies like Samba TV also confirm that significantly fewer people clicked on the new episodes.

Analysts point to several causes: the long break between seasons, the lead actor change, and fierce competition in the streaming landscape. Many fans indicated on social media that the series has "lost its soul" without Cavill.[/i]

Season 5

The Witcher has been exclusively available on Netflix since 2019. Season four recently premiered, but it seems that the fifth season, which has already been filmed, will be the last for the series.
