'How To Train Your Dragon' Does The Unexpected!

The live-action remake of 'How to Train Your Dragon' has proven to be a surprise hit and is expected to break records in the franchise.

After a month in theaters, the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon has become a major success. While other remakes like Snow White disappointed at the box office, this adaptation shows that there is still life left in the genre.

The film has earned over $240 million in the US and another $320 million worldwide, bringing the total to an impressive $560 million against a budget of only $150 million.

On Track For A Franchise Record

With a worldwide take of $560 million, How to Train Your Dragon has surpassed films like Monsters, Inc., Cars 2, Brave, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda 4. More importantly, the remake is now the second highest-grossing film in the Dragon series, only behind How to Train Your Dragon 2 from 2014, which ended with a total of $614 million.

It is very likely that this new version will also break that record. Who would have expected that? The theater run is not yet over, and word-of-mouth remains strong. International numbers are also still climbing, especially in Europe and Asia, where there is significant enthusiasm for the adventures of Hiccup and Toothless.

A Remake Made With Love

For Universal, this means not just profit, but also confidence in the franchise's future. A sequel has already been announced for 2027, once again directed by Dean DeBlois.

The film is not only achieving financial success but also receiving much praise from both critics and fans. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an impressive 97% audience score. Reviews have been positive. Maggie Lovitt of Collider even called it "a gold standard for how to do a live-action remake right."

The Dragon Lives On

Where many remakes are solely about profit, this film radiates genuine love for the source material. It is this dedication that makes the difference. While other franchises struggle to regain their magic, How to Train Your Dragon seems to be rediscovering it in a new form.

If the current momentum continues, it is only a matter of time before this remake tops the franchise charts. With a sequel on the way, the dragon world appears to be soaring high for the foreseeable future.

Another New 'Trainwreck' On Netflix: Disturbing Moment Captured

A new part of the 'Trainwreck' series is now streaming on Netflix, featuring shocking real-life events.

Netflix is back this week with a new documentary about a bizarre event that drew significant media attention. This time, we see the story of a hot-air balloon that supposedly carried a boy, in Trainwreck: Balloon Boy.

Trainwreck: Balloon Boy is a Netflix documentary, directed by Gillian Pachter. Earlier installments in the Trainwreck series included Trainwreck: The Real Project X, Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy, and Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel.

Hoax

The story surrounding Balloon Boy began on October 15, 2009. National panic broke out in the U.S. that day after a father called emergency services to report that his homemade UFO-shaped gas balloon had taken flight. The big problem was that his six-year-old son was supposedly trapped inside.

Helicopters with cameras followed the balloon live, leading to hours of media coverage and national concern. Even the National Guard and Homeland Security got involved in the debacle. However, when the balloon landed, it was discovered that there was no one on board.

Unique Perspective

Public sympathy turned to outrage following this discovery. What seemed like a tragic incident may have been a setup by the parents. Reportedly, they wanted to use their son for fame and notoriety.

The documentary provides a unique perspective on the case through interviews with the so-called balloon boy himself. We also hear from researchers, journalists, and witnesses about the event.

Innocent Event?

Trainwreck: Balloon Boy explores how a seemingly innocent event could transform into one of the strangest news stories of this century. Old footage and new testimonies reveal the aftermath media hype can unleash. Are you curious about this bizarre story? Watch Trainwreck: Balloon Boy is now streaming on Netflix.

On This Date, 'Superman' Will Likely Debut On HBO Max

Superman is set to be available for streaming on HBO Max after its theater release, likely by late September.

The new Superman film directed by James Gunn is currently showing in theaters, but a release date for HBO Max has not yet been officially confirmed. Nevertheless, based on prior releases from Warner Bros., we can make a good estimate of when the film will be available for streaming.

Earlier this year, Warner Bros. released Minecraft and Sinners, both of which became available on HBO Max 77 days after their theatrical releases. If this pattern holds true, Superman could be streaming on HBO Max starting September 26.

77 Days

Since Warner Bros. has already applied this release interval twice in 2025, it is highly likely that Superman will follow this schedule. This means the film would be digitally available approximately two and a half months after its theatrical premiere.

While we still need to wait for an official announcement, September 26 seems like a reasonable date. Once Warner Bros. or HBO Max confirms this, it will undoubtedly be widely shared through official channels.

Financial Success

Both Minecraft and Sinners have proven to be financial successes at the global box office. Superman is also performing well, having grossed around $220 million worldwide after its opening weekend, nearly equivalent to its production budget.

The box office score is already higher than the total earnings of DC films such as Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, The Suicide Squad, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Blue Beetle. Whether the 2025 film will match the earnings of Man of Steel is still uncertain. That film grossed $670.1 million in 2013.
