Kristen Stewart has a career that few people in the industry can recount; from child star in major commercial blockbusters to lead in independent films, collaborating with niche directors like Olivier Assayas and Kelly Reichardt.

Taking such significant creative risks can, however, yield both successes and disappointments. Stewart received much acclaim and recognition for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer and her recurring collaboration with Assayas, including the films Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper. But amidst all those wonderful projects, there are also films she would prefer to erase from history.

Remake

One of them is Charlie's Angels from 2019. This action-comedy film is a remake of the 2000 version featuring Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, and Cameron Diaz. The story follows a trio of crime-fighting women who work together to defeat evil. Almost twenty years later, it was remade, starring Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska.

Charlie's Angels was written and directed by Elizabeth Banks, who also stars in the film alongside Djimon Hounsou, Sam Claflin, Noah Centineo, Nat Faxon, and Patrick Stewart.

Horrible

Although the film received a less favorable reception than the original, many still enjoyed having another film in this genre with a fully female cast, which remains rare. However, that did not mean it was a pleasant experience for Stewart.

She said: "At the time it seemed like a good idea. I really found it horrible to make that movie. Honestly, those three [from the original], you can’t match them - Cameron, Lucy, and Drew. I love that film, which says a lot."

Mixed Reviews

Charlie's Angels was not a huge success. The film received mixed reviews from critics with a score of 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. Both USA Today and Variety labeled the film as one of the biggest box office disappointments of 2019.



Ultimately, the film grossed $73.3 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of $48-55 million and an estimated marketing budget of $50 million.

Exhausting

Though some stars feel obligated to speak only positively about their work, it's refreshing that Stewart is so candid about her experiences, thereby taking some of the gloss off filmmaking.

We often assume every production is fun and enjoyable, but in reality, many of those processes are exhausting. You can do your utmost, only to see a final product that is entirely different from what you envisioned. Perhaps her honesty encourages others to be open about their experiences, as not everything that glitters is gold.

San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing, which means genre films are receiving all kinds of updates. 20th Century Studios has just released a new poster for Predator: Badlands.

The film by Dan Trachtenberg (Prey, Predator: Killer of Killers) is a completely new adventure in the Predator series. Instead of following a prey, it centers on a Predator itself.

Story

The film tells the story of Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a Predator who is outcast by his clan. To prove himself, he sets out to find the ultimate prey.

This brings him on a path to Thia (Elle Fanning), an android created by Weyland-Yutani. Together, they help each other survive on a dangerous planet.

The science fiction franchise Star Trek is set to return in 2026 with the entirely new series Starfleet Academy, which takes place after the events of Star Trek: Discovery. Paramount+ presented the full cast and the first teaser of the series during San Diego Comic-Con, set in the 32nd century.

The story follows a new generation of cadets at the revamped Starfleet Academy, just outside San Francisco, over 120 years after the Federation had withdrawn from Earth. According to producer Alex Kurtzman, the series aims to “return to Gene Roddenberry’s vision of hope, in a time where division prevails”.

Characters And Storyline

Oscar-winning actress Holly Hunter plays Chancellor Nahla Ake, also Captain of the USS Athena, who welcomes the cadets in the initial footage. Paul Giamatti appears as the antagonist Nus Braka, a hybrid of Klingon and Tellarite with a dark history linked to one of the main characters.

The series introduces a diverse group of cadets, each with their own backgrounds. Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta) is an orphan with a troubled past, initially skeptical of Starfleet. Jay-Den Kraag (Karim Diané) is a Klingon aspiring to become a medical officer, while Sam Mil (Kerrice Brooks) is a holographic being who has just been 'born' and starts her training without a past.

Familiar Faces

In addition to new characters, familiar faces will also return. Robert Picardo reprises his role as the Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager, while Tig Notaro and Oded Fehr return as Jett Reno and Admiral Vance from Discovery. Additionally, George Hawkins (Darem Reymi), Bella Shepard (Genesis Lythe), and Zoë Steiner (Tarima Sadal) have joined the cast. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premieres in early 2026 on Paramount+.

A scene after the credits used to be a fun bonus for people who stayed in the theater during the credits. Nowadays, they are often crucial for major film franchises like Marvel, where new characters are even introduced. Sometimes such a scene promises a lot, but ultimately delivers nothing.

Marvel Studios films almost always include at least one scene after or during the credits. The recent MCU films feature many post-credits scenes that lead nowhere. A prime example is one of the post-credits scenes from Eternals.

Story

The film tells the story of the Eternals, a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces the Eternals to team up once more.

The Deviants, monstrous creatures thought to be lost to history, have mysteriously returned. It is up to the Eternals to defend humanity against this ancient enemy.

High Expectations From Marvel

Marvel Studios had exceptionally high expectations for Eternals. It was directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland), the screenplay was promising, and the cast consisted entirely of top-tier talent. Unfortunately, all this potential did not fully materialize.



The film scored a mere 47% on Rotten Tomatoes and did not resonate well with fans. The box office results were also quite disappointing as Eternals had a production budget of 200 million and managed to pull in 402 million dollars at the box office.

Starfox

Eternals features two scenes after the credits. We will now focus on the first, where Harry Styles makes his MCU debut as the Eternal Eros/Starfox, the brother of Thanos. He teleports with his companion Pip the Troll (Patton Oswalt) to the ship of the Eternals. He tells Thena (Angelina Jolie), Druig (Barry Keoghan), and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) that their friends are in big trouble and that he knows where to find them.



He is referring to Sersi (Gemma Chan), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Phastos (Bryan Tyree Henry). This trio was taken by the Celestial Arishem due to their actions on Earth. The scene with Eros was clearly meant as an introduction for Eternals 2, but that film will likely never come.

Warner Bros. has released a new teaser for the upcoming prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry, set to debut on HBO Max later this year. The series takes place before the events of the successful cinematic adaptations of Stephen King's book.

The story of IT: Welcome to Derry is set in the early 1960s, a time when the terrifying entity Pennywise roams freely through the town, long before the Losers Club confronts him in the 1980s.

Familiar Faces And Creative Leadership

The series stars Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso. Bill Skarsgrd reprises his role as Pennywise, just as he did in the previous films.

The series will consist of nine episodes and was co-developed by Andy Muschietti, who also directed the two films. He will direct four episodes along with producers Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs.

Success Guaranteed?

The two films from 2017 and 2019 were well received, grossing an impressive $1.2 billion at the global box office. IT: Welcome to Derry seems poised for success. The prequel premieres in October on HBO Max.
