I Hate The 'Transformers' Movies, But I Find These Robot Films Brilliant

If you're not a big fan of Michael Bay's movies, these robot films might just be the perfect fit for your interests and tastes.

I find the Transformers films by director Michael Bay absolutely terrible. Sure, the battles and explosions are quite impressive to watch for a moment, but these Autobots and Decepticons have very little in common with the ones from the 80s. Not to mention the bizarrely bad humor present in the Bay films.

That said, I can definitely enjoy films featuring robots. Below I share three of my favorites: films with robots that I actually think are good.

Ex Machina (2014)

Director: Alex Garland | Cast: Domhnall Gleeson, Alicia Vikander, Oscar Isaac

Caleb, a young programmer, wins a week at the private estate of Nathan, his eccentric boss. There, he is tasked with assessing a human-like robot named Ava. What begins as a test quickly turns into a psychological confrontation about identity and power.

Pacific Rim (2013)

Director: Guillermo del Toro | Cast: Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi

When gigantic monsters rise from the ocean, humanity deploys colossal robots - Jaegers - to combat them. Controlled by two linked pilots, they form the last line of defense. As the Kaiju overpower them, a former pilot and an inexperienced partner must work together to save the world.

I, Robot (2004)

Director: Alex Proyas | Cast: Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, Alan Tudyk

Set in futuristic Chicago in 2035, robots are fully integrated into daily life thanks to the unyielding Three Laws of Robotics. Detective Del Spooner is skeptical of this integration. When he discovers a professor dead, he suspects that a robot might be responsible. During his investigation, he comes to realize that humanity might be under threat.

The Pixar Sci-Fi Movie Is Coming To Disney+ Soon

We will soon be able to enjoy this family film together on Disney+.

The latest animated intergalactic Pixar adventure, which was shown in cinemas in June and received a nice score of 83 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, is quickly coming to Disney+.

The science fiction animated film may not have received the publicity it deserved earlier this year, but perhaps it will get a second life on the streaming service, where it will be a great addition to family films.

A New Home On The Streaming Service

Elio follows the titular boy who struggles with changes after losing his parents. He feels at home nowhere and thinks that life beyond Earth might be better.

Soon, his dreams become reality, and he embarks on a cosmic adventure where he must form new bonds with eccentric extraterrestrial life forms.

Intergalactic Proportions

"He also finds himself in a crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow has to figure out who he truly should be," according to the film's synopsis. Elio will be available on Disney+ starting next Wednesday, September 17. Check out the trailer above.

Netflix Unveils Explosive Trailer For 'The Rip' Starring Ben Affleck And Matt Damon

Netflix kicks off the year 2026 with an explosive action film featuring acclaimed stars.

Netflix has released the first trailer for the crime thriller The Rip, directed by Joe Carnahan. The film re-unites Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on the big screen after their previous collaborations in films like Air and The Last Duel.

The story begins with a team of police officers in Miami raiding an abandoned building, where they find millions of dollars in cash. What starts as a spectacular discovery quickly turns into a source of distrust within the team.

Who Can Be Trusted?

As more outsiders catch wind of the haul, the situation grows increasingly grim. No one knows who to trust anymore, and tensions run high.

The Rip taps into the genre of dark, corrupt police dramas that Carnahan has previously made a name for, such as the film Narc.

Strong Cast

In addition to Affleck and Damon, the cast includes Steven Yeun, Sasha Calle, Teyana Taylor, Nestor Carbonell, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, and Lina Esco.

The screenplay is written by Carnahan himself. The production is led by Affleck, Damon, Luciana Damon, and Dani Bernfeld, under the label Artists Equity. With this film, Affleck and Damon continue their creative collaboration, this time exclusively for Netflix. The Rip premieres on January 16, 2026, on Netflix.

The Second Season Of This Surprising And Highly Acclaimed Sci-fi Series Gets Even Better With These Details

Prime Video is set to launch Gen V season 2, which connects to The Boys and premieres on September 17.

Prime Video is soon releasing the second season of Gen V, the spin-off of The Boys. This new season arrives almost two years after the first one and promises to maintain a direct link to the main series. The first three episodes will premiere on September 17, with a new episode released weekly until October 22.

The second season consists of a total of eight episodes. According to showrunner Michele Fazekas, the narrative of The Boys season 4 will intertwine with Gen V. Homelander has taken over America. We will show what that means for the country, the university, and the emergence of a counter-movement. This strongly ties the series to the larger storyline of the universe.

New And Returning Cast

Familiar faces such as Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Patrick Thomas return. Hamish Linklater makes his debut as the new dean of Godolkin University, while Ethan Slater stars as Dr. Thomas Godolkin, the founder of the institution. Additionally, Keeya King, Stephen Kalyn, Julia Knope, Stacey McGunnigle, Tait Fletcher, Wyatt Dorion, and George Murphy have been added to the cast. Erin Moriarty as Starlight and Chace Crawford as The Deep will also make guest appearances.

The new season also marks the farewell to Chance Perdomo, who tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in March 2024. Fazekas emphasized that his role and legacy will remain intact in the story: "It was crucial for us to honor him. He remains present throughout the entire season."

Behind The Scenes

The production is led by Fazekas, with Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Neal H. Moritz serving as executive producers.

This New Miniseries On Netflix Is A Crossover Between 'Squid Game' And 'Shogun' And Is Set To Be A Massive Hit!

Netflix launches "The Last Samurai Standing", an exciting series about samurai in a deadly game that promises thrilling entertainment for viewers.

What do you get when you combine the historical Japan of Shogun with the ruthless game structure of Squid Game? Netflix believes it has found the answer with The Last Samurai Standing, a series that taps into both worlds and will be available starting in November. The project seems to have already garnered significant attention in a short amount of time.

The launch is scheduled for November 13. The story takes place in Kyoto, specifically in the Tenryuji Temple, during the Meiji era. Nearly three hundred samurai gather there for a contest that could earn them a massive cash prize. The goal appears straightforward: steal wooden tags and be the first to reach Tokyo. However, behind these simple rules lies a deadly game.

Samurai In A Deadly Game

At the center is Shujiro Saga, a man who participates only to support his sick wife and son. The role is played by Junichi Okada, who not only stars in the series but also serves as a producer and action choreographer. The series is based on the manga Ukusagami, by Shogo Imamura and Katsumi Tatsuzawa.

Netflix sees The Last Samurai Standing as a project that presents the samurai myth in a new light. "Many people associate samurai with a glorious era," says Kaata Sakamoto, head of content at Netflix Japan. "But by the end of the Edo period, they lost their status. This series explores how they would survive as ordinary people, forced into a fight for survival."

Premiere And Expectations

The series consists of six episodes and will be released worldwide. The trailer showcases massive battles, a chaotic race through Japan, and confrontations between samurai and modern weapons. Everything indicates that Netflix is aiming for a combination of spectacle and tension. Starting November 13, viewers can find out if The Last Samurai Standing becomes the next international hit.
