IMDb Ranking Explodes: Netflix Film Rises 1640 (!) Places And Crashes Into The Top 10

'The Wrong Paris' may not be a great film according to film critics, but Netflix users are loving it. The movie has become unexpectedly popular, resonating well with audiences.

Many strong films have been coming out recently. A Netflix movie, which has been a bit under the radar, now also seems to be a big hit for the streaming giant. We're talking about The Wrong Paris.

This appeared to be just another average romantic comedy from the streaming service, but Netflix must be pleased nonetheless. At a record pace, the film has risen over 1600 spots on IMDb and has reached the top 10.

Romance In Texas

The story centers around Dawn (Miranda Cosgrove), an art student dreaming of studying in Paris, France. To finance her dream, she participates in a dating show that promises to take place in the "City of Love."

However, the shock is immense when she discovers that it’s about the wrong Paris, namely the one in Texas. What starts as a disappointment slowly evolves into a complex dilemma: will she choose money, ambition, or true love when she develops feelings for bachelor Trey?

Raging Popularity

The Wrong Paris receives a 3/5 star review from our own Leen Megens on FilmTotaal. The film is also praised by Netflix users for its clever and well-developed contrast between dreams and reality, packed with enough drama, humor, and unexpected twists.

The appeal of The Wrong Paris lies partly in its relatability. The concept of reality TV and love in a fake 'Paris' clearly resonates in an era where dating shows are wildly popular around the globe.

Objective

While critics may be divided and point out clichés, viewers are clearly less strict. Despite a score of around 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, the public embraces the film as a 'feel-good guilty pleasure.' Reaching the IMDb top 10 is a rare example of how a modest romcom can still convince audiences.

Netflix's 'Yellowstone' Unveils Season 2: New Names Added To The Cast

The series brimming with drama, intrigue, and romance is set to welcome new faces for an exciting new adventure ahead.

The filming of the second season of Ransom Canyon is in full swing, and details are gradually being revealed. Netflix has confirmed that surprises are on the way in the beloved western drama.

The series, based on Jodi Thomas's books, ended last year with several unresolved storylines. Quinn O’Grady was on the verge of losing her ranch, Staten Kirkland saw his relationship fall apart, and Yancy Grey received an unexpected visit from his mysterious wife.

New Talent

Amidst all these unresolved plotlines, there is now casting news. Netflix has announced that Ben Robson and Heidi Engerman are joining the cast. The two will appear in multiple episodes, although the streaming service is keeping their characters under wraps for now.

Familiar Themes

Meanwhile, familiar faces such as Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly will also return. Showrunner Ashley Blair has previously emphasized that themes of love, land, and legacy will once again be central, with more focus on family ties and moral choices.

There is no release date yet, but Netflix assures fans that Ransom Canyon has much more story to tell. The second season promises to deliver a mix of romance, suspense, and western atmosphere that captivated viewers last year.

Cillian Murphy Was Terrified Of His New Netflix Role: "I've Never Done This Before"

The actor was uncertain about how to approach the role since it felt so obvious.

Cillian Murphy will be back for a Peaky Blinders movie, where he returns for one last time as the beloved Thomas Shelby. He is also starting in a new Netflix movie, Steve.

However, this was not an easy task. In fact, the Oscar-winning actor found it to be perhaps 'the scariest acting experience' of his career. The reason for this? Murphy didn't have to transform into someone else, but rather just 'be himself'.

Story

In the film, directed by Tim Mielants (known for the acclaimed Small Things Like These, also featuring Murphy), Murphy steps into the shoes of a principal named Steve.

It's a crucial day for principal Steve and his students. As Steve fights for the integrity of the school, he also struggles with his mental health. On top of that, he faces the troubles of the troubled teenager Shy.

Intense

Murphy now speaks about the role: "It was unique for me. The dialogues were specially written for me. No accent was needed. My character doesn't wear a costume or outfit. There was nothing to hide behind or deepen into, as I usually always do".

"So, nothing was planned or prepared. I had to react in the moment, swept away by new information and new challenges. That really scared me. I've never worked like this before". Starting October 3, Steve will be available on Netflix.

This Remains One Of The Best Plot Twists Of The Past 25 Years

At the end of the first season of the action series '24,' there is a plot twist that you truly do not see coming.

From 2001 to 2010, the action series 24 aired for eight seasons, with a ninth and final season released in 2014. Known for its strong cliffhangers and fast-paced storylines, the series never shies away from a surprising turn, but none is as impactful as the plot twist at the end of season 1.

24 was created by Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran. The series features an ensemble cast, with Kiefer Sutherland in the lead role as American federal anti-terrorism agent Jack Bauer. Each season covers 24 consecutive hours in a real-time narrative structure, emphasized by the use of split screens and a digital clock. Multiple intertwining storylines unfold, with Bauer’s narrative serving as the main thread.

The End Justifies The Means

At the start of the series, Bauer is already a highly skilled agent with a "the end justifies the means" approach. This means he typically threatens, ignores, or undermines anyone unwilling to cooperate. Throughout the series, the story contains elements of both a political thriller and a serialized drama, with almost every episode ending in a cliffhanger.

Bauer utilizes people on both sides of the law in his attempts to prevent terrorist attacks and take down those responsible, sometimes at a high personal cost. These attacks include assassination attempts on presidents, bomb explosions, bioterrorism, cyber warfare, and conspiracies exposing both governmental and corporate corruption.

Plot Twist

In addition to cliffhangers, there are also plot twists in the series, and one of the best occurs at the end of the first season. At this point, the true nature of Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke) is revealed. She is an agent and second in command at the Los Angeles branch of the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU), and a colleague of Jack Bauer. Moreover, the two had a prior relationship.

Although she had acted as an ally to Jack Bauer throughout the season, by the end of season one, Jack's wife Teri Bauer (Leslie Hope) discovers that Myers is actually a mole within CTU, collaborating with terrorists.

Murdered

Teri is then killed by Nina. The season concludes with a devastated Jack holding Teri's body, giving the high-energy series a somber ending that few fans saw coming.

This moment is as abrupt as it is poignant and represents one of the most impactful moments for Jack throughout the entire series. Nina is eventually captured in season two and interrogated about her involvement in terrorist plots. She trades information to save her life and thus remains a dangerous, recurring element in the story.

Shot Dead

In season three, Nina returns again as an antagonist, once more involved in terrorist activities. Ultimately, she is shot dead by Jack Bauer himself during a confrontation.

Netflix Wants To Acquire One Of The Biggest Film Studios

In the coming years, significant changes are expected in the American film industry, particularly with Netflix's potential acquisition of Warner Bros.

Netflix is considering making a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, a move that could fundamentally change the entertainment industry. The streaming giant is thus a new player in the race to take over the iconic film and television company.

The rumors follow closely after the news that Paramount and Skydance have finalized their merger. This combination, led by David Ellison and backed by Oracle founder Larry Ellison, is reportedly already preparing a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery as a whole according to insiders.

Netflix Focuses On Studio And Streaming Division

In contrast to the expected bid from Paramount Skydance, Netflix would primarily focus on the studio and streaming operations of Warner Bros. Discovery. This includes HBO, HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, DC Studios, and the film catalog.

What further fuels the speculation is that Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos and Warner Bros. head David Zaslav were recently spotted together at the boxing event between Crawford and Álvarez in Las Vegas. This adds to the impression that high-level discussions are taking place.

Financial And Strategic Challenges

Although no official bid has been made yet, the acquisition is considered a complex financial undertaking. Warner Bros. Discovery has a market value of about $41 billion, with a debt load of $35 billion. Therefore, Netflix would need to adopt a targeted strategy to acquire the right components.

An acquisition would give Netflix direct access to a range of valuable franchises such as DC, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and more. This would strengthen the platform in its quest to build a library of strong IPs, something it has struggled with so far.

Impact On Cinema And Streaming Landscape

Fans and analysts are concerned about the potential ramifications for theatrical releases. Netflix is known for its preference for direct streaming, which could mean that future Warner Bros. films will appear in theaters less frequently.

The acquisition would also further consolidate the media landscape. Following previous megadeals like Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, this would again lead to fewer major players in Hollywood, potentially resulting in less diversity in studio offerings.
