The New 'Frankenstein' Movie Releases On This Day In Cinemas

Starting next month, you will be able to see Guillermo del Toro's new 'Frankenstein' film in theaters.

Doctor Victor Frankenstein and especially his monster is one of the most famous and most filmed characters. Many films have been made in the last few decades about this monster and its creator, and next month the next one will be released.

Frankenstein is written and directed by Guillermo del Toro, based on the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley. The film is set in a drama/horror setting where the brilliant but egotistical scientist Dr. Victor Frankenstein brings a creature to life, ultimately leading to the destruction of both creator and creation.

Cast

The cast includes Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Lauren Collins, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. Del Toro has wanted to make a film about Frankenstein since 2007.

He stated back then that a project he would "do anything to make" would be a faithful "Miltonian tragedy" version of Frankenstein. In 2023, Del Toro finally got to work on this project when Netflix gave him a contract for several projects.

Inspiration

Del Toro spoke about his inspiration for making the film: "It was a religion for me. Since I was a child - I was raised very Catholic - I never quite understood the saints. And when I saw Boris Karloff on screen, I understood what a saint or a messiah looked like."

"So I have followed the creature since my youth, and I have always waited for the film to be made under the right circumstances, both creatively, to achieve the scope needed to make it different, and on a scale where you could rebuild the whole world."

In Theaters

The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 30, 2025. Next month, Frankenstein will be released in theaters on October 17 in the US. It will then also be released on Netflix on November 7.

Frankenstein has already received positive reviews, currently holding a score of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Latest Marvel Series Already Set For A Second Season?

With no Marvel movies scheduled until summer 2026, fans can still look forward to exciting new series content.

Marvel Studios currently has no major theatrical releases planned until the new Spider-Man movie opens next summer. However, fans need not be idle, as there is indeed some exciting series content on the way.

The next release is Marvel Zombies, an animated series set to launch next week on Disney+. Brad Winderbaum, head of Streaming at Marvel Studios, is actively promoting this new title right now.

Chance For A Sequel

Although Marvel Zombies was initially designed as a miniseries, Marvel Studios is leaving the door open for a follow-up. If the series is well-received, a second season is certainly possible.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Winderbaum revealed that there is already a "blueprint for a potential second season" prepared. However, the future of the series depends on the success of the first season.

Call To Fans

Winderbaum emphasizes that viewers play an important role: "People need to subscribe to Disney+ and watch this show. If that happens, more will come. And we are excited. We are ready."

Marvel Zombies brings animated versions of beloved MCU characters to life. Several voice actors from the live-action films are returning to reprise their roles in this animated variant.

Release Date And Episodes

The series consists of four episodes that will all be available at once on September 24. Fans can binge-watch right as the series goes live.

Spectacular Start Of A New Universe Tops Charts On HBO Max

Fans praise the refreshing tone and strong cast, marking the beginning of a transformative era for DC.

This is not your standard Superman movie: it’s a blend of superpowers, political chaos, myths, and reality, introducing a Kal-El who is already a hero. It represents a breath of fresh air for the DC universe with Superman (2025).

The film is directed by James Gunn and serves as the official launch point of the new DC Universe, also known as Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Unlike previous films, this isn’t an origin story: Superman is already active but must find his place between man and superhero. David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Rotten Tomatoes

On Rotten Tomatoes, Superman scores 85 percent positive reviews from critics and 90 percent from audiences. Critic Stephen Romei of The Australian wrote: "This is the funniest superhero movie I’ve ever seen, and the good news is that the humor is intentional. It’s also action-packed, visually spectacular, has decent twists, and features great performances."

Richard Lawson of Vanity Fair noted: "It’s a cleverly balanced film, a mix of light-hearted joy and real drama. Gunn would have found it much harder to sell his new approach if he hadn’t cast so well. Luckily, he found an appealing Kal-El/Clark in TV actor David Corenswet."

The critical consensus reads: "This Superman manages to create a dynamic new world while centering on the big, beating heart of its champion. He soars high as a Man of the Future who stands right in the here and now."

Sequel Announced

James Gunn has since confirmed a sequel titled Man of Tomorrow, slated for July 2027. David Corenswet will return as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Notably, both rivals will have to team up against a much larger threat this time.

HBO Max

With humor, action, and a fresh perspective, Superman is a fresh start for the entire DC universe. The film is now exclusively available on HBO Max and sits proudly at the top of the Top 10 worldwide.

Streaming Services Like Netflix And HBO Max Are Set To Change Significantly In The Coming Years

Streaming services profit from nostalgia by revitalizing old franchises and short content, drawing in viewers who crave familiarity.

While streaming seems advanced compared to cable television, streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and Disney+ know exactly how to touch viewers' hearts: through nostalgia.

In recent years, streaming services have focused on the 80s and 90s with shows like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, Veronica Mars, and The Baby-Sitters Club. In the coming years, streaming services will continue to profit from that nostalgic feeling by breathing new life into old franchises.

Expanding Franchises

Since building new series takes time and effort, familiar properties are being revived. The world of Star Wars is being further expanded, as well as Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, which has already been adapted in Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games. More superheroes from Marvel and DC are also on the way.

Did you notice that Lord of the Rings has a spin-off and a new series based on Harry Potter is forthcoming? Popular games like Fallout, The Witcher, and Queer Eye are also being adapted. To keep capturing attention and growing member loyalty, they plan to release episodes more frequently instead of dropping an entire season at once.

Ongoing Competition

Streaming services are also competing with popular videos on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Crunchyroll, etc., by offering short content as well. This way, they attract viewers looking for a satisfying experience during a quick 10-minute wait at a bus stop. Special improvements are being made for mobile viewing speed and resolution.

Following initial cautious documentary releases, more will follow as they prove to be a success, such as Tiger King. If you want to learn a new language, more films and series are being made available in their original language online. Is cable television dead now that streaming is taking its viewers? No, those channels are currently catching up with new, quality content. Everything … for the big money.
