After 14 Years, One Of The Most Successful Science Fiction Franchises Of All Time Returns To Prime Video With A Completely New Series
After 14 years, the iconic science fiction series makes its return to Prime Video with a completely new series, promising fresh adventures for fans.
The new Stargate will be written and directed by Martin Gero, who previously worked on Stargate: Atlantis and Blindspot. Twenty years ago, I got my first job in television thanks to Stargate. To now have the chance to reshape this world feels like coming home, says Gero. Alongside him, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, the duo behind the original film, are also involved as producers. When filming will begin and who the actors will be will be announced later.
The Foundation Of The Universe
The core of Stargate remains the same: through mysterious ring-shaped devices, people can be transported instantaneously between distant planets. A military team discovers thousands of worlds inhabited by civilizations that were once influenced by extraterrestrial beings. This blend of mythology, science, and adventure made the series unique and distinguished it from other science fiction series.
The original film from 1994, starring Kurt Russell and James Spader, led to several popular series. Stargate SG-1 (19972007) grew into a cult favorite with ten seasons. This was followed by Stargate Atlantis (20042009) and Stargate Universe (20092011). Two films were also released: The Ark of Truth and Continuum. An animated series and a web series about a young Catherine Langford completed the universe.
Coming Soon To Prime Video
For those looking to rediscover the universe, all previous installments are now available on Prime Video. The new Stargate series promises to continue the tradition with modern visual effects and new storylines, while staying true to the essence of exploration and mystery. Thus, Amazon MGM Studios seems to be reopening the gate to a new era of interplanetary adventures.
