Superhero Slate 2026: Three Titans And One Dark Horse That Could Steal The Show

2026 starts with a drunk Supergirl, and ends with one big Doomsday.

Four major superhero flicks are hitting theaters in 2026: Supergirl, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Clayface, and the absolute juggernaut Avengers: Doomsday. While the DC entry Clayface is clearly a smaller-scale production, it’s no less intriguing. In fact, it might just be the surprise hit the genre desperately needs right now.

Supergirl (June)

Director: Craig Gillespie | Cast: Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts

Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl, is celebrating her 21st birthday aboard a spaceship with her loyal super-dog Krypto when a young alien girl pleads for her help. Together, they traverse various worlds to track down the murderer of the girl's father. Stripped of her powers by the influence of a red sun, Supergirl is forced to rely on her courage, empathy, and intellect, leading to some intense confrontations.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July)

Director: Destin Daniel Cretton | Cast: Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Zendaya

Peter Parker attempts to strike a new balance between his life as a college student and his responsibilities as Spider‑Man just as a series of mysterious attacks puts New York in peril. Surrounded by allies both old and new, he must uncover the source of this threat and figure out how to protect the city without sacrificing everything he holds dear.

Clayface (September)

Director: James Watkins | Cast: Tom Rhys Harries, Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella

Netflix’s Massive Spy Series Hit Returns For A Dangerous Second Season

Black Doves soars to hit status, racking up over 311 million hours watched on Netflix worldwide.

With over 311 million viewing hours globally, Black Doves has cemented itself as one of Netflix's biggest espionage hits. This British series masterfully blends high-stakes tension with psychological drama, boasting an impressive 92 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, the stage is set for season two, promising to raise the bar even higher than its predecessor.

The series centers on Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a woman leading a double life: to the public, she’s the wife of an influential British politician, but secretly, she’s an operative for a shadowy organization known as the Black Doves. After her illicit affair came to a dramatic end in the first season, her cover was blown wide open, forcing her back into active duty. Aided by former assassin Sam (Ben Whishaw), she fights to survive in a world where loyalty is fleeting at best.

Turning Up The Heat

The upcoming season promises an even deeper crisis for Helen. As her husband Wallace climbs the political ladder, she finds herself under increasingly intense scrutiny. Her double life is becoming virtually impossible to maintain, especially as the Black Doves continue to pursue their own agenda. Meanwhile, Sam struggles with the fallout of returning to the violent life he once tried to leave behind.

This dynamic is amplified by lingering tensions with the ice-cold Reed (Sarah Lancashire), the organization's mysterious leader. The relationship between Helen and Reed, defined by suppressed empathy and simmering distrust, once again creates a dangerous powder keg.

A Darker Narrative

While season one succeeded through its original tone and strong character focus, season two digs deeper. It’s not about saving the world, but about damage control: what toll does spycraft take on the mind, relationships, and conscience of those trapped within it? The risks are greater, the emotional conflicts sharper, and the margin for error smaller than ever. The series is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2026.
