Netflix Is Releasing This Surprising Miniseries Based On A Popular Crime Novel; Major 'Breaking Bad' Star Is On Board!

Giancarlo Esposito joins the extensive cast of Netflix's crime thriller All the Sinners Bleed, promising an intriguing storyline and complex characters.

Netflix has significantly expanded the cast of the crime thriller All the Sinners Bleed. The miniseries adds Giancarlo Esposito to an already impressive lineup. It is based on the novel by S.A. Cosby and developed by Joe Robert Cole, known for works like Black Panther.

The lead role goes to Sope Dirisu (i]Gangs of London[/i]), who plays Titus Crown, the first black sheriff in conservative Charon County, Virginia. One year into his tenure, a deadly school shooting leads to a grim investigation. As Titus tries to regain control of the situation, he discovers that a serial killer has been active for years, choosing victims within the black community under religious pretexts.

New Names Added

It was previously announced that Nicole Beharie, Daniel Ezra, John Douglas Thompson, Andrea Cort25, Murray Bartlett, and Leila George will also participate. Eleven more names are now added, with Giancarlo Esposito being the most notable addition in the role of Ezekiel Wiggins. Additionally, David Lyons, Donald Elise Watkins, Mackenzie Astin, Jordan M. Cox, and Cullen Moss are introduced as local agents or town residents.

All the Sinners Bleed is an adaptation of Cosby’s namesake book. The series is produced by Higher Ground Productions (from Barack and Michelle Obama), in collaboration with Amblin Television. Joe Robert Cole serves as showrunner and director for several episodes, including the first.

Tensions

Set against the backdrop of the Deep South of the United States, the series depicts Titus grappling not only with the dark history of his town but also with personal traumas and political tensions, including a far-right group wanting to hold a parade in honor of the Confederacy.

This Expensive Sci-Fi Film Was One Of The Biggest Box Office Flops Worldwide Eighteen Years Ago

Even the talents of Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman could not save this adaptation from failure.

Every year, films with sky-high budgets flop dramatically at the box office, regardless of the film's quality. This applies to several films released this year, such as Mickey 17, Black Bag, and The Running Man. In 2007, the science fiction film The Invasion by Oliver Hirschbiegel was one of the biggest flops.

In 2007, several films with hefty budgets failed miserably, such as Evan Almighty, Next, and Southland Tales.

Plot

Washington D.C.-based psychologist Carol Bennell (Nicole Kidman) and her colleague Dr. Ben Driscoll (Daniel Craig) are the only two people on Earth aware of an epidemic plaguing the city.

They discover an alien virus aboard a crashed space shuttle that transforms anyone exposed to it into emotionless drones while they sleep. Carol realizes that her son holds the key to stopping the spread of this plague, and she rushes to find him before it's too late.

Not Satisfied

The Invasion is the fourth adaptation of The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney. Two now-iconic adaptations, both titled Invasion of the Body Snatchers, were released in 1956 and 1978 respectively. In 1993, director Abel Ferrera also released his version, simply named Body Snatchers.

Warner Bros. was dissatisfied with the final result that director Oliver Hirschbiegel delivered, so the Wachowskis (The Matrix) were recruited to partially rewrite the script. Director James McTeigue was brought on to oversee the reshoots.

Massive Flop

All these efforts turned out to be unnecessary, as the film was still poorly received, evident in its box office performance. The production budget ranged between 65 and 80 million dollars, but it only grossed 40 million at the worldwide box office.
